Cascade Anderson Geller, Herbalist
Harvesting wild dandelion, sassafras roots, asparagus, muscadines, wild mushrooms and many other plants as a child put Cascade firmly on the
herbal path. Her heritage, from mountainous, North Georgia-born
parents, helped establish her trust in herbs for food and medicine.
Completing training at Dominion Herbal College in British Columbia with
Ella Birzneck in 1976, along with other herbal elders now gone on,
solidified clinical skills. Sojourning with earth-centered cultures in
Asia, Europe and the Americas, whose everyday life centers around
plants, continues to inspire and educate her.
For nearly thirty years
her herbal pathway has traversed a wide swathe of herbal activities
including: a consulting practice; co-founding a healing center;
teaching in naturopathic and other institutions, including 13 years
instructing the botanical medicine curriculum at the National College
of Naturopathic Medicine and establishing the botanical medicine
programs at Bastyr and Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine;
teaching at herbal medicine conferences; running an herb shop and
providing outdoor and indoor education about native, naturalized and cultivated plants in the U.S. and beyond. Cascade lives with her family in Portland, Oregon.
May Day Herbs and Foods - Celebrating Abundance and Health
The luxuriantly green Earth in May has always been a cause for renewal celebrations. We'll spend these hours together exploring nature's bounty, both wild and cultivated, and preparing foods and medicines together. Our emphasis will be on gaining and maintaining health throughout pre-pregnancy, pregnancy and childbirth using good foods and herbs. Dress warmly and come prepared to be outdoors. If possible, bring gardening gloves, pruning shears, a pocketknife and a fresh, raw, washed vegetable of your choice. It is recommended that you bring a vegetable that you are fairly unfamiliar with but curious about.
