What is a doula?doula
A doula provides continuous emotional, physical, and informational support before, during, and after birth, for the mother and her family. She does not do any kind of medical assessments or advising, but educates a family about their choices, listens for thier needs, and advocates for those choices in the birthplace and beyond. A doula's work consists of providing advance education and discussion, and helping the mother find her own voice, while not speaking for her. Doulas draw upon their training, experience, and intuition as they assist families through this gateway of life.

Doula Training
The Artemis Institute is currently working in partnership with Mother Tree Doula Training Services, to enhance and increase educational opportunities available to doulas in training:

  • Mother Tree provides an educational program which includes the well-respected curriculum and certification of DONA, the international certification body for doulas.

  • Artemis builds upon and expands beyond what is offered in the scope of that curriculum, presenting a powerful variety of experts and wide array of effective healing modalities in our courses: Level I and Level II Women's Healing Arts for the Childbearing Year.

  • We highly recommend taking all three of these class series (they do not need to be taken in order) to
experience a well rounded education and fully prepare you for this important work.

Artemis' vision is for every woman who wants a doula to have one. We want doulas to be well prepared for their role with each family at this powerful time in their lives. Our mission includes providing training and certification opportunities for doulas; to increase the number of competent doulas serving women and families in our world.
